What it is

Concepts become culture when they are lived, not just theorised.

A Startup Civilization is a place where Semo's tools are deployed together at human scale. People use Semo Coin, participate in governance, contribute data, and experience what a regenerative economy looks and feels like as a daily reality.

Not a commune. Not a utopian experiment.

These are demonstration sites — places that can show, not just tell, what is possible when an economy is designed around human and ecological flourishing rather than extraction.

Two forms

Semo Villages

Semo-integrated sites where the community gathers, learns and prototypes the regenerative economy together.

A Semo Village — homes, gardens and a gathering hall by a river

Community hub. A physical gathering point where regenerators, learners, stewards and visitors meet and work together.
Live economy. Semo Coin and the Semo app operate at village level — a real economy, not a demo.
Governance in practice. Residents propose, discuss and vote on what the village does and how.
Demonstration model. Each village builds the evidence and the playbook for the next one.

Semo for Refugees

Full Semo-based democratic economies established where people seek new opportunities and self-reliance.

For people forced to rebuild their lives in new places, the barriers to economic participation are enormous — and existing systems are often designed to keep them dependent rather than self-reliant.

Not charity, not aid with conditions. A complete economic infrastructure a community can operate for itself.
Democratic from day one. Every verified participant has one vote — governance is not delegated to NGOs or administrators.
Earned, not given. Semo Coin is earned through contribution and work.
Priority adoption. The Manifest commits stewards to focus initial adoption on underprivileged communities. This is that commitment in practice.

Semo as event token — a pilot for operating the new economy in a contained setting such as a festival, where the whole loop can be run and refined in days.

A permanent site where the same loop runs continuously, and the playbook for the next one is written from what actually happens.

From pilot locations, Semo demonstrates the benefits of a regenerative economy over traditional systems — and as people join and adopt Semo, its collective economy grows naturally.

Where it stands today

Concept phase — with the first site being prepared.

Semo Villages

In concept phase. The first Semo Village is being prepared in the Philippines, and we are already actively gathering inhabitants. Site selection criteria and governance frameworks are in development; the first pilot village will be proposed to the community for a vote once the framework is ready.

Semo for Refugees

In concept phase. The governance framework and economic model are being developed in consultation with community organisations and stewards. Pilot site proposals are welcome via the community.
